U of Music has decided to take a closer look at a song that is currently rubbing the belly of that sleeping but always curious animal known as mankind. It is at the very least worth investigation for its uncanny ability to capture the attention of good ole’ white middle aged women straining to strut their stuff one last time before the debilitating effects of physical rigor mortis catch up with their already compromised mental states. The song was created by a spoiled rich kid named Robin who got his inspiration for the song from his mom’s Marvin Gaye album. The song took 1 hour to write and once the 30 minutes it took to write the music passed the daunting task of applying lyrics loomed heavily over Robin’s thicke skull. He finally decided to choose demeaning women to the ultimate degree as his subject matter knowing with a valuable 30 minutes of certainty that women would buy into it. See…. Theres this dichotomy ..Women want to be recognized as independent, intellectual creatures but they also fully embrace the fantasy of walking around naked, makeup smeared, wearing only white tennis shoes while fully dressed men make lewd gestures and hurl insults at them. Lest I am misreading lets examine the lyrics..As the utterly inconsequential T.S. Eliot said in some silly poem he wrote, “Do not ask what is it let us go and make our visit” ….Robin begins his emotional journey by explaining that someone can’t hear or understand him with the outside possibility that he is going out of his mind. Fearing the latter he decides to repeat his unheard message and explains that some bad man tried to domesticate a woman and got close but she was an animal (as only he could know) and he decides he will liberate her from the man who is an evil God. In the full spirit of celebrating a woman’s liberation from men who deny freedom Robin proclaims his intention,”And that’s why I’m gon’ take a good girl, I know you want it… I know you want it ..I know you want it You’re a good girl …Can’t let it get past me.. You’re far from plastic …Talk ’bout getting blasted.” Apparently he understands this woman and draws a curious connection between how real she is, plastic she isnt and getting blasted.. Probably tangled in in the haze of his superior reasoning ability he begins to see blurred lines and hates them so he implores the woman who has fended off the evil God man to “Go ahead, get at me.” In the 2nd verse thicke furthers his case with the liberated woman by calling her the hottest bitch in some unidentified place. Apparently it works as he proclaims that he is lucky because she wants to “hug me” and in his excitement he wonders what rhymes with those words. thicke decides to include a friend’s perspective on the situation and gives him the entire 3rd verse to explain. This friend opens by telling the liberated woman he wants to be there “when you bend that ass into.” He says that he has big machines in many different geographical locales so she should “hit me up” (call him?) when she passes through so he can give her something big enough to “take your ass too/to?” Apparently he is offering her one of his international machines as a reward for her independence from controlling Gods. His conversation becomes unintelligible or more unintelligible depending on your point of view and he rants on about smacking asses , pulling hair and jail watching and concludes by stating he is a nice guy. thicke brilliantly chose naked women walking across a stage while he wears sunglasses and leans against a wall as subject matter for the video. He also occasionally had his friends follow the women and try to grind against them to further emphasize his point about liberating women trapped by controlling God monster men.
